repetition

I looked for your name in the maze of uncertainty A theme for this poem is 'how can i talk about dreams without saying the word dream?' so there are many allusions to confusing layouts of architecture and unreliability in what you perceive
Between nightmares you remind me of me
Remembering memories together, passively In a dream, remembering against your will
Wondering ifs, what else I was supposed to be What would I be had I not met you?

In the cracked mirror A distorted figure, unreliable reference point a familiar figure looms
The numbers on the alarm clock point to my doom Looking at numbers and watches is one of the easy ways to tell if you're dreaming or not. This is in reference to that
I've known the puzzle that's on the back of my hand
A twist foreseen I'm unable to understand

Retracing my steps through the endless winding paths
The road breathes, contorts as it is a living thing Much like how a dream is constantly shifting scenes and characters in them
Yearns for an ending, to alter the aftermath
I run away from the fears, only beginning

Another time, to tie up loose ends
Another you, to be easily replaced
Burn the knot, When tying polyester string or rope, burning it serves as a way to melt the plastic and prevent it from fraying and coming undone. This doesn't work with natural fibers such as wool, though so it doesn't come undone
Burn the bridge, you won't be gone for long

▼ about this poem ▼

This is the end of an unexpected poetry trilogy spanning my three zines. The first poem, “why can't we talk like we used to?” was about yearning for closure, the second one, “rainy nights remind me of you” was accepting the terms of the end while still not moving on 100% just yet. this final piece is about understanding it wasn't a unique situation and closing the chapter for good.
